What Burnley ViewPoint Means To Me: Holly

As part of our crowdfunding campaign we asked our volunteer editorial team to reflect on why they believe in ViewPoint

We're currently crowdfunding to create a new printed edition of Burnley ViewPoint, focused on uncovering hidden stories from across Burnley and supporting new contributors through a programme of writing and journalism workshops. As part of the campaign, we asked members of our volunteer editorial team to reflect on what Burnley ViewPoint means to them and why they believe it matters.

Holly's Reflections

I'm Holly, I do quite a lot within the creative community of Burnley, mainly volunteering and sharing my own creative writing such as my poems.

I got involved with Burnley Viewpoint as I knew Stephie from other projects I had been involved in, and I saw the opportunity of being a part of an editorial team as a good way to develop and work on new skills, I hope to keep developing new skills as we develop our Magazine.

I have learned a lot since joining the team and it has had a great effect on my confidence and sharing my own words with our community. The physical copy allowed me to share my other group at Queen Street Mill, QSM Young Creatives, where I talked about my own personal experience of how great the group is and how it is integral for young people to have such groups that they can attend and work towards local projects on history and community. Overall, being a part of Burnley Viewpoint is letting me grow into who I am, as an artist and speaker for the outstanding projects we have nestled in our Town. Some of my poems can be found on the digital/online version of BVP which has helped me to believe more in my passions and importance.

I am very excited about doing another physical copy of BVP because it will also help us to become more established in the community which will in return give the team more exciting roles and projects to take on! The first physical copy was successful and having it made me feel much more imbedded in the team, and it feels great to do something for Burnley and its people through sharing their stories!
